ELENA VALDÉS

I am Elena Valdés Peña, a textile artist and researcher with a master's degree in sustainability and fashion technology. With a deep passion for art and a strong sense of social responsibility, I decided to establish L7 Estudio in 2018.

Thanks to the opportunities I have had to travel and experience new cultures, I have been able to develop the necessary tools to continue growing with this project that began as a dream.

Working towards a more sustainable and responsible future is crucial to me. I have a responsibility to my community, environment, and, above all, to my team and the planet. That's why the studio focuses on reusing materials and tools previously used to create artisanal textile prints or bio-textiles.

I come from a family of Mexican artists. My dear uncle, who is a great inspiration to me, Rufino Tamayo, is one of the reasons since my childhood to dedicate part of my life to creativity and helping others through my work. Growing up in a museum, surrounded by art, I envisioned creating something that can truly make a difference, touch someone's life, and work hand in hand with my surroundings to create my art as a fashion and textile designer.

I've had the opportunity to work with various Mexican brands as a designer and leader. In them, I witnessed modern slavery and the capitalist greed of companies, consequences of overconsumption and the demands of the fashion industry that sometimes cause companies and fashion brands to forget the needs of the workers. Thanks to this, this company is dedicated to growing together, considering not only the needs of our clients and collaborators but also those of our entire team and the environment. Each of us is responsible for all the waste produced in the world, and we must also consider that our consumption behavior affects the chain within the fashion industry. Consumerism is an active way of relating not only to objects but also to the community and the world. This leads me to excessive food consumption and the enormous amount of food waste the world produces. That's why I work every day to make a better world.

This project is not just my passion; it's my values, beliefs, and the driving force to move forward.
